The problem

Why does HVAC service feel like a guessing game?

The Jackson area has more "fly-by-night" HVAC trucks than almost any market its size. Most quotes are wild estimates. Most fixes are gambles. Most warranties are footnotes.

  • The "feels-low" diagnosis

A tech glances at the unit, charges a small fee, and recommends a $9,000 replacement. No static-pressure reading. No combustion check. No measurements. Just a guess in a uniform.

  • The hidden upsell

The $49 service-call coupon brings a tech to your door who needs to find $1,500 of "issues" to justify the route. Anything found is suddenly urgent. Nothing is itemized.

  • The "energy mystery"

Your bill is double last summer's. The contractor shrugs and blames the weather. Nobody measures airflow, duct loss, or static pressure — the actual culprits. So nothing changes.

Why it costs you

You can replace a system on a guess. You'll just replace it twice.

An HVAC contractor without measurement tools is a doctor without a stethoscope. They can sell you the surgery — they can't tell you whether you needed it. And in this market, plenty don't.

"The contractor down the street guessed once and charged us twice. Then Rooted came out, measured everything, and told us the unit wasn't even the problem."

— And while we're being honest: Mississippi humidity has a personality. And the personality is moody. A dehumidified, balanced home is the only thing that calms her down.

How Rooted is different

We measure first. Then we recommend.

NCI Residential High-Performance certification (#26-013-03) means three things actually get measured on every diagnostic — not estimated.

  • Step 1

    Static pressure

If your ductwork is starved or strangled, no equipment swap fixes it. We put a manometer on it and tell you the number — yours and what it should be.

  • Step 2

    Combustion analysis

For gas furnaces — we measure CO, O₂, and combustion efficiency. The number tells us if your furnace is safe, efficient, or quietly poisoning your air.

  • Step 3

    Air balance

Hot bedroom, cold living room? That's not a thermostat problem — it's an airflow problem. We measure CFM at each register and rebalance, room by room.

Why the certification matters

National Comfort Institute is the certifying body for residential measurement-based HVAC diagnostics. Logan A. Wilson holds both Residential High-Performance #26-013-03 and Air Balancing #26-013-03 — the credentials behind "we measure, we don't guess."

The Make-It-Right Guarantee

Two flavors — one for service calls, one for installs. Both spelled out clearly so you know what's covered before we start.

  • Service calls

1-year coverage on parts we replace

    • If a part we installed fails within 12 months, we replace it — labor included.
    • Diagnostic re-visit included if the original complaint comes back.
    • No "warranty void if…" small print on workmanship.
  • Installs

    18-month workmanship coverage

    • Eighteen months on the labor and installation of the system.
    • Re-balance, re-test, re-measure visits included for the first year.
    • Refrigerant is excluded — owner-paid. We say so up front because it's the line nobody else mentions.
Manufacturer warranty is separate. Standard 5 years on parts, extendable to 10 years if Rooted registers your unit at install (small fee). Maintenance every 6 months required for the manufacturer to honor the extension. Years 1–5 transferable on home sale; years 6–10 are not.

They were the first contractor to measure anything. Logan put a manometer on our system and showed me exactly why we were dehumidifying poorly — and then he fixed it for half what we'd been quoted to "replace everything."

Common questions

Things Jackson families ask us most.

If yours isn't here, send it through the form — we'll answer personally and add it to the list.

Are you available 24/7 for emergencies?

We’re honest about this — no, we’re not 24/7. Emergency response runs during business hours, and we get to same-day calls when you reach us before noon. After hours, leave us a message and we’ll be your first call the next morning.

Most “24/7” emergency HVAC ads in Jackson are after-hours upsell traps. We’d rather not be that contractor.

What does NCI certification actually mean?

National Comfort Institute is the certifying body for measurement-based residential HVAC diagnostics. The certification means we’ve been trained and tested on actually measuring static pressure, airflow, and combustion efficiency — not eyeballing them. Logan A. Wilson holds NCI Residential High-Performance #26-013-03 and Air Balancing #26-013-03.

If you’ve worked with a contractor who didn’t put a manometer on your system, you’ve worked with one who isn’t measuring.

What's the Make-It-Right Guarantee?

It’s our umbrella workmanship warranty. Two versions:

Service calls: 1-year coverage on any parts we replace, labor included. Installs: 18 months on workmanship — re-balance and re-measure visits included.

The thing we say out loud that other contractors don’t: refrigerant is excluded — owner-paid. That’s the line most warranties hide in the small print. We’d rather you know up front.

How is the manufacturer warranty different?

The manufacturer warranty is separate from Make-It-Right and covers the equipment itself. Standard is 5 years on parts; extendable to 10 years if Rooted registers your unit at install (small fee). The extension requires twice-yearly maintenance to stay valid. Years 1–5 transfer if you sell the home; years 6–10 do not.

Do you offer free estimates?

For new system installs and major replacements — yes. For service calls and diagnostics, there’s a flat trip fee that covers the visit and the measurement workup. That fee is credited back to any repair you decide to move forward with on the same call.

We don’t do $49 service-call coupons. Those are bait. The math doesn’t work for honest contractors, which is why the techs running them are pushed to find $1,500 of “issues” per visit.

Why does my Jackson home feel humid even when the AC is on?

Because the AC is sized to cool the air, and a contractor who didn’t measure your home’s actual heat load probably oversized it. An oversized AC short-cycles — it cools fast, but doesn’t run long enough to dehumidify. Result: cold, clammy air.

The fix is rarely a new system. Usually it’s measurement-based: a duct-static and airflow workup, properly sized fan speed, and verifying the system is actually running its full dehumidification cycle. If the math says the home needs more than mechanical cooling can deliver, we’ll tell you honestly and point you to someone who specializes in standalone dehumidification.
